Mobilus is a theft deterrent and stolen vehicle recovery system for the consumer market for which we also provide the underlying ongoing support service. The Mobilus system combines GPS and cellular-based technologies, enabling real-time tracking and recovery, and features an electronic immobilizer. The system also allows the customer to locate his or her vehicle through a Web interface.
Mobilus has been designed to be a fully integrated vehicle theft deterrent and recovery system and consists of hardware and ongoing Web-based support and monitoring. Mobilus offers best-in-class vehicle theft prevention and effective recovery of stolen vehicles for private automobile owners. Mobilus is rapidly gaining in popularity and is accepted by most insurance companies in Quebec, which offer substantial policy rebates to consumers purchasing theft deterrent products.
Mobilus is based on three key technologies: (i) GPS for vehicle location and tracking; (ii) cellular wireless network for connecting the vehicle to the command center; and (iii) Internet for real-time vehicle positioning. Mobilus users are charged a monthly fee in order to have access to our tracking and asset recovery services. The tracking system of a Mobilus equipped vehicle is armed at all times. If one of four different theft conditions is detected by the Mobilus system, an alert signal is sent to our command centre. Conditions detected by the system include: (i) vehicle moving with the engine off; (ii) main power disconnected from the telematics device; (iii) vehicle started and moving without remote being activated; and (iv) GPS antenna faulty or disconnected. Once a theft condition is detected, the tracking and recovery process is then initiated by one of our trained agents and the owner is not required to report the theft. The vehicle's location can be continuously tracked in real-time by our command centre which is in-house, resulting, in our view, in a higher recovery rate as compared to outsourced services.
In addition to operating our own command centre, we also use our own installation crews. Using our own installation crews allows us to maintain better quality control and enhance the customer experience. Moreover, using our own installation crews makes it more difficult for thieves to adapt to our solutions.
