Most Australian organisations are constantly juggling priorities — from increasing efficiency and enhancing customer experience to improving supply chains and achieving sustainability targets. Making meaningful progress on these goals takes more than ambition. It takes the ability to innovate with clarity, speed, and confidence.
Innovation isn’t a nice-to-have, it’s expected. But for many organisations across Australia, getting started is the hardest part. Ideas stall when they’re too complex, lack focus, or are disconnected from real business needs. Teams struggle with limited resources, siloed functions, or concerns about cost and risk.
Datacom’s cloud innovation process breaks through those barriers — helping you explore, experiment, and prototype solutions that solve real problems and deliver value quickly.
Datacom’s rapid innovation sprint follows a structured approach. We begin by collaborating with key stakeholders to frame the business challenge, then move into concept development and technical exploration. A working prototype is built using cloud-native tools, and the final step is to showcase the solution, gather feedback, and plan what comes next. Throughout, each solution is secure by design, cloud-native from day one, and owned by your business.
Our team of cloud experts works with teams across your entire organisation to explore how you can innovate using cloud technology to optimise processes, increase efficiencies, drive sustainability and enhance customer experience.

Lion partnered with Datacom to prototype a more efficient returnables system for beer bottles. The four-week rapid innovation sprint resulted in a digital-tagged crate designed to reduce administrative effort and simplify the return process.
The project also explored sustainability gains through bottle reuse, which offers greater energy efficiency than recycling. Datacom supported a consumer-led design approach, using AWS-native tools to enable the prototype.
“The rapid innovation process was really consumer and customer-led. The tech was whatever it needed to be to make the process simple.” — John Steiner, Accelerated Change Director, Lion
Cloud AI refers to artificial intelligence capabilities such as machine learning, predictive analytics, and natural language processing that are delivered through cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and sovereign cloud. These services make advanced AI tools accessible without needing to manage complex infrastructure.
Cloud AI is a powerful enabler of innovation. It lets organisations experiment quickly, enhance customer experiences, and drive intelligent automation using scalable, pay-as-you-go services. Teams can test new ideas faster and bring value to market sooner, all without upfront infrastructure barriers.
AI in the cloud uses algorithms to process and analyse large volumes of data, generate insights, and automate decision-making. It integrates with cloud infrastructure to make data more useful, accessible, and actionable across your organisation.
This is critical for innovation. By combining AI and cloud, organisations can fast track adoption and insights, uncover trends, predict behaviour, and optimise operations in real time. It enables smarter services and solutions that respond dynamically to changing business needs and customer expectations.
Cloud native is a way of building and running applications specifically for cloud environments. It uses technologies like containers, microservices, and APIs to create scalable, resilient, and flexible systems.
Being cloud native gives organisations the agility to innovate continuously. Applications can be developed, updated, and deployed rapidly, making it easier to deliver new features, test new ideas, and stay ahead of market demands.
Cloud native development is the process of creating applications that are optimised for the cloud from the start. It involves using DevOps practices, containerisation, and automation to ensure applications are fast to deploy and easy to scale.
This approach matters for innovation because it reduces time to value. It empowers developers to build, test, and release software more quickly, enabling organisations to respond to opportunities and challenges with speed and flexibility.
